Stampato a tiratura limitata (5.000 copie nel mondo), il terzo volume dei "Neil Young Archives" contiene 17 CD che ripercorrono in ordine cronologico la carriera, la produzione discografica e l'attività concertistica del musicista canadese tra il 1976 e il 1987, periodo fertile in cui Young pubblicò album quali "American Stars 'N Bars", "Comes A Time", "Rust Never Sleeps", "Hawks And Doves" e il live "Live Rust" oltre ai più controversi "Re-Ac-Tor", "Trans", "Everybody's Rockin'", "Old Ways", "Landing On Water" e "Life": "Archives Vol. III" include 14 ore di musica e 198 brani, proponendo 15 canzoni totalmente inedite e 121 registrazioni mai pubblicate prima in forma ufficiale (versioni originali e alternate versions, versioni dal vivo e missaggi differenti) di titoli già editi; in questo modo permette anche di ricostruire il contenuto di album mai usciti come "Oceanside Countryside", "Johnny's Island" e "Summer Songs". I CD sono custoditi in confezioni "softpack" nel box di formato "verticale" e arricchito da un libretto di 36 pagine
