Cosi' la stessa Cherry Red presenta il box 'Optimism - Reject - Punk And Post-Punk Meets D-I-Y Aesthetic', ideale compagno del 'To The Outside Of Everything' uscito nel 2017: una raccolta di classici, rarita', pezzi significativi estratti da album e gemme nascoste di solisti e gruppi come Fall, Subway Sect, Sisters Of Mercy, Thompson Twins, Blancmange, Young Marble Giants, Marine Girls, John Cooper Clarke, Alternative TV, Scritti Politti, 23 Skidoo, Raincoats, Thomas Leer, Swell Maps, Monochrome Set, Ruts, Au Pairs e molti altri, che tracciano un quadro della scena britannica post punk, quando artisti ed etichette si sentirono liberi di applicare alla musica l'estetica 'fai da te', pubblicandosi da soli i proprio dischi (spesso 45 giri a tiratura limitata) affidati in distribuzione a un network di negozi di dischi indipendenti e promossi dalla nuova stampa specializzata. 'Passando da un ruvido pop chitarristico lo-fi ad ambiziose produzioni casalinghe e percorsi sperimentali, questo e' il suono di un mondo sotterraneo che stava sotto l'underground', una istantanea di un luogo e un tempo preciso in cui la liberta' di espressione era il nuovo credo e trovava nuovi canali di sbocco.
